Watching Her Fade
Welcome to the blog about my adventures in managing and caring for my mother who has dementia.
What you will find here …
Through this blog and my experience I hope to help people as they navigate through the avenues of dealing with aging parents and the dementia disease. I have also asked a few of my friends, who either have loved ones in a facility, have lost loved ones, or who are knee deep in the trenches caring for a loved one with one of the dementias, right in their own home. I am not a medical professional, or professional caregiver. I am just a lady who had a lot of trouble finding information when this journey started and I want to help others with the little knowledge I have gleaned.
I will talk about some very personal thoughts, difficult decisions, legal issues and how I made it through with the help of family, friends and organizations. And I would be remiss if i didn’t include God and his infinite wisdom, using the right people to help me work through these times and guide me on the right paths to care for my mom and find out what was best for her from then until now.
The image above was taken in 2015, 2 years after my father passed away from lung cancer. This blog reflects upon that time of my life and how his passing affected our family and the dynamics of it all. The time from just after Thanksgiving to just after Christmas 2013 was not a very good time for the Hodgin family, but we will definitely need to start a bit further back than this to give you the full picture.
